The term WebCourses stands for online course modules, i.e. complex, interactive, multimedia learning programs on the Web, which are generally to be completed by students as part of their traditional range of courses during specified periods (semesters). There is usually no charge involved for students at partner universities and schools, which accept the costs as part of their expenses for the regular range of courses they offer to their students. Some universities charge their students symbolic tuition fees. In cases when the chosen WebCourse is not a compulsory part of the applicable study and exam regulations, WebCourse members can be charged a course fee for joining a tutored study group. All other interested parties will be made a reasonable offer on request.

Processing of test 1, the introductory placement test, and test 2, the final progress evaluation test, is -- unlike any other one of the tasks in the units or in your terminology trainer -- strictly limited in time. Certain external influences, such as a failure of your network connection or incoming telephone calls may terminate it and result in display of a rather unrealistic result. Unfortunately, it's beyond the power of our system to prevent events like these. The good news is that you needn't be afraid of any drawback because these test outcomes don't form part of your overall result but, instead, just serve to calculate your learning progress.

Both quality and quantity of learner feedback vary with exercise types and number of tries.
On having completed an exercise for the first time, you are simply informed about your correct and wrong answers. We use the colours green and red for this purpose. The feedback screens of the various text input exercises like gap-fill and dictation exercises carry the following information, which you may have overseen:
>> You're missing corrections of your mistakes, aren't you? For a start, just analyse your mistakes and try to find solutions on your own. You may, of course, repeat this exercise in later sessions, as soon as you have completed all tasks of this unit. The program will correct possible mistakes then.
Additionally, the learner feedback of some exercise types, such as T/F-questions, comes with hints on solutions and further explanations why certain statements must be considered true or false right on having completed the exercise for the first time. This information is highlighted in yellow.
All feedback screens of tries 2 to 4 display the expected solutions, which will help you to do better when you try an exercise for the third or fourth time. Note, however, that you are offered varying question sets every time you repeat one and the same exercise. This way we are trying to limit the effects of a widespread copy&paste mindset.

All WebCourses are focussed on e-learning, not on e-testing. This is the reason why you are offered to repeat all tasks of the units up to three times (once per day and only as soon as you have completed all tasks of one unit). During your coursework, we permanently assess your performance. This procedure differs from traditional courses which you just attend for a semester or longer and have your achievement assessed in a final exam. BTW, this WebCourse offers quite a lot of practice material where your answers are not graded, such as the demo unit at myWebCourse, which you can study before logging in, and the self-assessment tests in the Short Guides section. Furthermore, the regular units cover some exercises that do not log your results, an example of which are the crossword puzzles.

It is for didactic reasons that individual tasks are not supposed to be repeated on the same day. Get back tomorrow or some time later and you'll be free to do any task of completed units once again per day.

You are right. We do not really count "unit results" but draw your overall result from your accumulated percentages that relate to the five categories of skills and knowledge that you mentioned above. In a nutshell, you can find the data that matters at myProgressReport. Towards the end of the course, however, checking the detailed unit tables will help you to identify which tasks might have to be repeated in order to achieve the best possible result. Just click on "Skills" next to "Results" at the right bottom of the tables, and see what it gives you.

There's nothing to worry about. Please understand that although you may achieve 100% after some preliminary practice as late as in the fourth try, you cannot earn a better grade than 3.7 in such a case. This is because the quality of the user feedback in terms of help and even solutions gradually increases each time you (have to) repeat a task. You'll probably understand that we cannot award you grade 1 for the completion of an assignment the solutions of which you've been given before ;-)

You can stop getting these automatic reminders only by terminating your group membership with e-Xplore Technical English. Just go to myWebCourse > Instructions > General instructions and follow the link in the last paragraph. Generally, there will be an opportunity to repeat courses during one of the following semesters. Please note that this may involve additional costs if you had to pay for your current course.

As soon as you have qualified for a certificate, you may request it at any time before your personal WebCourse deadline.
